Can't re-enable a monitor

I have the same issue. In my case just a reboot re-enabled the monitor.
My use case is that I have two macbooks connected to the same external monitor, and I wanted to be able to use disable/enable to turn the non-externally-displayed laptop into laptop-only view mode quickly and easily.

Ended up installing Lunar to wake up (when running it) displays as a workaround.

Is there a way to implement it similarly? It's apparently possible, as long as Lunar has such behaviour.

Same problem here, with the screen of the macbook air.
I disabled my macbook screen with:
displayplacer "id:1 enabled:false"
Then it does not appear in the displayplacer list and therefore it does not get activated again.
Even Lunar does not see my screen anymore.

So I ran a displayplacer command once, it turned off my external monitor and now when I plug it in, it shows the picture for a split second, then blacks out again. Neither Lunar nor resetting NVRAM helps, the only thing that saves the situation is that I can plug my computer into the second HDMI input on my monitor, and I'm totally confused about why the first input is now dead.

UPD: somehow it turned back on, not sure if I'm gonna try messing with it again.

once built (say, at src/displayplacer), I do this trick from shell script to re-enable all my screens (ids may change, but typically they always in 1..10 range)

  for i in {1..10}; do
    src/displayplacer "id:$i enabled:true"
  done

after that, all your regular configs can be applied as usual (as all the screens are again enabled/accessible)
