In reading your manuscript and instructions I couldn't find a good description for how the depth variable is being used or should be assigned. When I first ran the tool with the default depth values it appeared to drastically under count the true valley width. I suspect this result was because our stream systems are very incised and the tool was unable to "jump" out of the channel. I ramped up the depth variable and this seemed to really improve results but I am not sure how to justify which values to use for depth. Any ideas?
To the incision issue, it might be helpful to have a minimum width variable that would exclude anything within that minimum width from being considered for valley width? Below is the output from two runs with minimum set at 10 (blue) and 50 (orange). For scale the total valley width there is about 1500-2000 ft across.
