duplicated filename handling is a bit strange perhaps I missed an option?

when dragging lets say 20 images to the plugin no matter which format no matter which name
each of them from a differnt directory folder#
asking to rename them to a given name and export them to jpg
I get filenames in the form
filename.jpg (in the first folder)
filename (1).jpg (in the next folder)
filename (2).jpg (in the next folder)
against plain filename.jpg in each of the source folders. Any idea?

Means there are no duplicated filename if referring to the fullpath incl. the filenname, not on the dragged ones nor on the batchprocessed ones.

Any hint welcome ... still believe it's a setup fault somehow.

Hi, can you take a screenshot of the Batch Convert dialog (or specify the exact contents of the Filename text field + the input images)? That would help me track down the issue.

If you add multiple files from different folders, they will be exported to the same output folder. If they have the same name, they will be automatically made unique as you mentioned. You can append a number to make them unique in a different way, e.g. filename_[1], which will produce filename_1.jpg, filename_2.jpg and so on.

If you add entire folders instead of individual files, the folder hierachies and filenames should be retained (unless you specified a different filename pattern than the default, or unless you activated the Remove folder structure action). If this is not the case, it's likely a bug.

If you want to export the images to their respective input folders, you can use the Match input folders from the dropdown (available from 1.2). Just make sure not to override the original images.

well I have multiple folders lets say albumfolders. eg. artist1 - album1, artist1 - album2, ......
each of them contains an image named 'folder.jpg' and or 'cover.jpg'
I then drag them 1 by 1 into the addon and the all get whitebalanced + scaled to 1000x1000 and then saved as folder.jpg
That was my idea.
And it nearly worked, they even end up each of them in ithe source where I dragged them from.
But unfortunately the first gets named 'folder.jpg' the second folder(1).jpg and so on.
Looks to me as if processing is done in some sort of temp folder which does require to rename them due to the duplicated filename, but even if there's no need to do so on the final destiation since there's 1 'folder.jpg' per folder.

In the past I used a fu-script in Gimp2 .. but since the devs payed havoc all my scripts stopped working and I got better things to do but trying to get them running. It's way easier to treat Gimp3 what it is now .. a pretty good advert poeple switch to Adobe photoshop since the macro recorder i awesome and does the trick.
So don't bother too much .. I could think of some use cases for batcher in it's current form but I doubt I'll still with Gimp3 for the fact that I do dislike devs going mad some day. I want to work with images not learn on how to re-code scripts, that simple.

This is definitely a bug if you're using Match Input Folders (based on the description, I assume you do). I'll try to fix this in the next release. The (1), (2), etc. should not be inserted in this case.

In the meantime, you can try another approach that could avoid this bug: Instead of adding the .jpg files manually, you can add the entire folder containing subfolders, even if they contain audio and other non-image files. Batcher filters these automatically if the Recognized file format option is checked. If you have images other than folder.jpg or cover.jpg, you can filter them by adding the Matching Text... condition and setting the pattern to (cover|folder)\.jpg (it's a bit clunky at the moment).
