Can't get Batcher to work with Gimp appimage 3.2.4

Hi,

I'm using the appimage version of Gimp 3.2.4 and I can't get Batcher to work or load. I have tried both using a custom directory and using the recommended directory /home/username/.config/GIMP/3.2/plug-ins for installation. I've copied the Batcher folder to each with no luck as well as set the directory path within Gimp.

I am using Linux Mint 21.1 Vera. Is it possible I lack a dependency? I'm hoping this is common issue. :)

I'm similarly unable to get the batcher menu option to appear on GIMP 3.2.4, on Windows 11. I was using GIMP 3.0.9 and relied on Batcher, but did the upgrade on both Batcher and GIMP to resolve some issues I was having with the older versions. It would seem the current version isn't loading up at the moment, although I do see batcher.py flash up by name during the load.

Batcher 1.2.5 is working in GIMP 3.2.4 for me, on Ubuntu 26.04.

To help the development team, start GIMP in verbose mode and share the output here. Here's how:

On Windows:

1. Close GIMP if it's open.

2. Press Win + R to open the Run dialog.

3. Type the following and press Enter:

   {PATH TO GIMP.EXE} --verbose --console-messages

4. GIMP will open along with a black console window. Leave both open.

5. Copy all the text from the console window into a text file and upload that text file with your update reply.

On Linux:

The steps depend on how you installed GIMP:

If you installed GIMP via your package manager (e.g. apt, dnf, pacman):

1. Close GIMP if it's open.

2. Open a Terminal.

3. Type the following and press Enter:

   {PATH TO GIMP} --verbose

4. GIMP will open. Leave the terminal window open.

5. Copy all the text from the console window into a text file and upload that text file with your update reply.

If you are running GIMP as an AppImage:

1. Close GIMP if it's open.

2. Open a Terminal.

3. Type the following and press Enter, replacing GIMP-xxx.AppImage with the actual filename of your AppImage:

   ./GIMP-xxx.AppImage --verbose

   (If your AppImage is not in your home folder, include the full path to it, e.g. ~/Downloads/GIMP-xxx.AppImage --verbose.)

4. GIMP will open. Leave the terminal window open.

5. Copy all the text from the console window into a text file and upload that text file with your update reply.

Hi everyone! While I can't reproduce the issue, you can help me by doing exactly what @chuckhenrich suggested (thanks for providing the steps in detail 😊).

One more thing you can try is the following:

1. Remove Batcher from GIMP/3.0/plug-ins if it was still present there.
2. Remove Batcher from GIMP/3.2/plug-ins.
3. Restart GIMP.
4. Under Edit -> Preferences -> Folders -> Plug-Ins, check the folders that are listed there.
5. Install the latest version of Batcher again in one of the folders listed in step 4.
6. Restart GIMP again.

This should perform a "clean install" of sorts, which, in my experience, should clean up some cached data associated with the affected plug-in(s). If that doesn't work, let me know.

I've tried removing it from the 3.0 location and adding it to the 3.2 location (it wasn't in there previously). That made no difference. The console mode information highlights (the tail of the file - full file attached

@sijnstra Thanks for the logs. I don't see anything suspicious in there, though.

I'd suggest the following:

• check if C:\Users\shawn\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\3.2\plug-ins is listed under Edit -> Preferences -> Folders -> Plug-Ins
• check if you installed GIMP with Python support enabled. You can indirectly check this by running Filters -> Development -> Python-Fu -> Python Console. If this menu doesn't exist or fails to display anything, then you need to reinstall GIMP.
• Close GIMP, remove C:\Users\shawn\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\3.2\pluginrc and start GIMP again. This should make GIMP regenerate that file.

@kamilburda Thanks for the suggestions! I tried all of those, including deleting both C:\Users\shawn\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\3.2\pluginrc as well as C:\Users\shawn\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\3.0\pluginrc
No luck.
I removed GIMP 3.2.4 (except retaining settings, not re-installing batcher), installed 3.2.2; same issue.
Remove 3.2.2 (retaining settings, not re-installing batcher), installed 3.0.8, and the menu item appeared again.

@sijnstra I found this Reddit post with the same problem and the user resolved this by completely uninstalling GIMP and using a different installer.

If that doesn't help, can you try placing the plug-in to the GIMP installation path, e.g. C:\Program Files\GIMP 3\lib\gimp\3.0\plug-ins (or whatever the other plug-in folder is listed under Preferences if GIMP was installed elsewhere)?
