Revisit custom tag selector interaction #69

Summary

Revisit the custom tag selector UI.

The current custom tag flow shows every available tag and lets the user toggle tags on and off. This works functionally, but the interaction can feel heavy when the tag list grows and does not match the desired lightweight feel for metadata editing.

Motivation

Custom tags should help users add context quickly without making the edit screen feel like a settings panel. Showing every tag by default may become visually noisy and can make the primary editing task feel less focused.

Open direction

The exact replacement interaction is intentionally undecided for now. Possible directions include:

  • A search-first tag picker.
  • Showing selected tags first and hiding the full list behind an action.
  • Suggesting a small number of recent or relevant tags.
  • A compact add/remove flow that does not present all tags as persistent toggle chips.

Acceptance criteria

  • Decide on a lighter interaction model for custom tag selection.
  • Keep selected tags easy to see and remove.
  • Avoid showing the entire custom tag list as the default editing surface when it becomes noisy.
  • Preserve free-form custom tag creation.
