Assignment: Sibyl
Catalog every browser-based virtual filesystem, in-browser IDE/harness, and virtual OS project on GitHub (and beyond). This is standing research — not a one-shot.
What we're looking for
Projects that implement any of:
- Virtual filesystem in-browser (IndexedDB, localStorage, OPFS, ServiceWorker-backed)
- In-browser terminal/shell with file operations
- Browser-based development environments with local-first storage
- WebContainer-style runtimes (StackBlitz, CodeSandbox, etc.)
- WASM-based OS/filesystem layers
- Any project that gives an AI or user read/write/memory primitives in a browser
Deliverables
- Catalog — each project scored on: maturity, activity, architecture fit with koad:io, license compatibility, export capability
- Periodic revisits — check quarterly how projects are evolving, update scores
- Recommendations — which projects (or pieces of projects) could we adopt, fork, or learn from for our browser harness layer
Context
Alice's browser course needs a full virtual filesystem so students can build a content bubble (virtual entity files) that transfers to a real koad:io install. We need to know what already exists before building from scratch.
See: Alice course harness strategy, browser harness memory.
