Description

My device is a Pixel 9 Pro XL (Android 17), and I installed Viper4FX following your instructions. I installed the driver with AIDL support. My problem is that when I play music or videos, the device initially produces a crackling, popping sound. Then, it becomes consistent with my EQ settings. When I enable global mode, this problem doesn't occur, but when a call comes in, it either gets stuck or, when I play music through headphones (Bluetooth), the call sound doesn't come through, or the sound becomes strange for a moment, as if it's transitioning. I also tried Android Auto, and after a while, it completely stops responding; there's no reaction in music, or music plays but there's no sound.

Steps to reproduce

1. I think the AIDL driver is definitely problematic and needs to be addressed. I suspect the problem is with the driver.

2. I think it's incompatible with Google Pixel phones.

3. Android Auto works poorly both wired and wirelessly.

4. When global mode isn't enabled, there's crackling or strange notification sounds at the beginning of the sound.

While listening to music on YouTube in the car, I received a call, and suddenly the music continued playing on my phone. I was on the phone simultaneously, and the music was still playing in the background. It only stopped when I manually paused the music.

Answers to your questions:

1. If you think the issue is related to the driver, please point out the specific problem. The DSP source code is available for inspection.
2. I'm using a Pixel 8 Pro running Android 16, and I haven't encountered this issue. For reference, I use Global mode.
3. I don't use Android Auto, so I can't guarantee its compatibility.
4. When Global mode is disabled, the AudioEffect instance is created each time playback starts, and the effects are applied at that point.

Based on what you've described, I believe the issue is more likely related to your configuration. The app provides many adjustable parameters, and incorrect settings can easily produce unexpected or distorted sound.

My suggestion is to disable all effects first, then enable them one at a time. That should help you identify which effect or setting is causing the issue.

If you developed an AML-style module for pixel devices, perhaps it would be more seamless? Is it possible to create such a module?

If everything is that easy, I won't use the current AIDL design. You can definitely try it. You can use the DSP code, or the previous one.
