% of contributions across different countries

I had a person identify wanting to see country representation across contributions

We have a dashboard in devstats that answers this question:

It would be great to get an equivalent in LFX Insights to answer this question. This can help with answers regarding geopolitical issues for projects on where contributions are coming from.

How are contributions and/or maintainers split across countries today and a year ago? how about 3 years ago? 5 years ago?

We do show geo data for contributor/orgs on a project level – see example for k8s

Adding a time-based component is a good idea.

Would you wan these questions to be answered on a CNCF-level as well (so for all projects aggregated)?

It's useful across all of CNCF (aggregate)

500+ organizations w/o location data doesn't look good... anyway we can fix that?

Those are mainly "self-employed" companies or very small businesses.

The % of contributions that are associated with a company where we have a location is much higher. I will double check.

still should be able to see where they are from though? I feel companies are easier than individuals to identify location

yes, except it's not even a company but something random they put into their GitHub profile

we could build this out into /reports/cncf and have a live dashboard of CNCF stats the community is interested in

That would work really well imho, love it and exactly what we need to show in terms of geographic diversity

One small feature request, would be nice to see "EU" somehow grouped so I could at least compare US vs EU overall contributions. Not sure how hard that can be, but LOVE THIS.

I had the same thought. Because if you manually add up all EU countries, it turns out that Europe had a similar impact on cloud native as the US. Quite interesting!

I will see if we can somehow present this.

just deployed a PR - I included all countries which are broadly considered to be "European" (not just EU-27)
