Can’t update LM Studio .AppImage — A mystery!

Have been meaning to bug report this for some time now, but can’t find a repo or issue tracker for the desktop version, so I hope this is the right place…

For some time I haven’t been able to update LM Studio. I’m currently running 0.4.6 which prompts me there’s a new version:

So, I download the 0.4.9 .AppImage and delete my 0.4.6 LM_Studio.AppImage, rename LM-Studio-0.4.9-1-x64.AppImage to LM_Studio.AppImage and move it to the same location and run it.

When I start the replaced .AppImage Settings → General still show that I’m on 0.4.6! I’ve tried to update to earlier versions (such as 0.4.7) and it was the same thing.

I honestly don’t understand how this is happening and I’ve never encountered anything like it. I run all AppImages with --appimage-portable-home.

I am dealing with a similar issue, I am on 0.4.8-1, and trying to update to 0.4.12-1....when I try launching it keeps showing me an update is needed and it keep showing me I am running 0.4.8-1, wondering how ti fix thi sissue.

I have the same issue I am running 0.4.8-1 and I want to update to 0.4.12-1 using AppImage file

i was able to get around this by deleting my ~/.lmstudio directory

The problem is indeed in the ~/.lmstudio directory (in my case, the LM_Studio.AppImage.home/ portable dir generated using ./LM_Studio.AppImage --appimage-portable-home).

So, I get around this bug by:

1. Replacing the AppImage with new version
2. Moving the LM_Studio.AppImage.home/ dir to a different location
3. Using ./LM_Studio.AppImage --appimage-portable-home to generate a new portable home directory
4. Starting LM Studio (./LM_Studio.AppImage)
5. Confirming it now runs the version I updated to
6. Closing LM Studio
7. Deleting the newly created LM_Studio.AppImage.home dir
8. Moving the old LM_Studio.AppImage.home/ back
9. Starting LM Studio and verify that the update was successful

This bug badly needs some fixing. One shouldn’t have to delete everything related to the app when updating.

Just closing LM Studio background process and opening new app-image worked for me
