Hi, while googeling, I came across this and was wondering if this is still active?
Especially the server part?

Yes, but unfortunately I've been busy with other projects so this one got down prioritized quite a few times. However, I have actually some updates to this project in my local workspace. I'll upload them as soon as possible. It is not done yet, but if I remember correctly the very basic client and server parts work. Feel free to help out with the project if you can.

As you can see it is not quite finished yet but the basic framework is there so there is something to build on to get the full protocol implemented.

To be honest, I did not take that detailed of a look, since I asked mainly because I read in this thread (https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/open-source-lxi-tools-and-liblxi-v1-0-released-for-gnulinux/225/) that hislip is the "future" and, if I understand it you, linked to this.

For a bit background on my motivation, I was looking into an easy way to create a GPIB Ethernet adapter and my first attempt/idea was to use a RaspberryPi with a GPIB shield, but since rpc is a b**** one can not have multiple rpc server that listen on separate IPs, or at least not easily. So I for now, use the two shields that I have to create two GPIB VXI11 adapters.
My plan for the future is to use https://github.com/mnemocron/STM32F7_LXI_Device and the GPIB driver part from https://github.com/mnemocron/gpibusb-firmware-stm32 . Since I also want to use the LXI_Device part for other projects, I thought I may use this as a basis to add HiSLIP support to it, but that is in the future of the future.

I've actually been doing sort of the same thing. I've even designed a prototype GPIB shield myself to be used with e.g. rpi. However, what I really want to do is to create a lxi stack which can work on both zephyr and linux. libhislip currently works on Linux but since it only uses a posix thread and socket interface it should be easily portable to zephyr. This way one could create a really cheap stm32 solution which can provide a lxi interface for whatever one wants to control.

That sounds interesting. Does this mean you will also extend liblxi to have a server included?

I'm creating libhislip as a separate library that offers both client and server feature. liblxi currently is mainly a client library which offers a simple API which abstracts VXI11, RAW, and next HiSLIP and it will use libhislip for that. In the future liblxi may introduce server features too.

I have never used zephyr, but after a quick look, it sounds interesting.

It is called Linux for microcontrollers. It is not a Linux kernel but all the tools surrounding it is from the Linux world. It is driven by the Linux foundation and is strongly supported by industry. It is a modern better alternative to the aging FreeRTOS.

Such a shame I only saw this now. I just created a VXI-11.2 + Prologix server (meaning: supporting several instruments behind it, it is a GPIB gateway), all on Zephyr, STM32H series. My first project on Zephyr. Does not disappoint.

And was looking if I could take a shot at integrating hislip.

But 2 issues:

• the coding style is probably very different from liblxi/libhislip. Haven't looked yet.
• I must lower my time spent on this project.

So, in short: I will try to free up some time to integrate hislip. If this is something that motivates you, I'm open to working on this together. If not, well....

I'm absolutely open to getting hislip working with Zephyr. The initial implementation is made as a client/server implementation for Linux. However, in recent years I'm also working quite a bit with Zephyr for my smaller micro-controller projects and my plan is to make this hislip implementation also work with Zephyr. Things need to be polished and reviewed but I think the basic features are in place and should be fairly easy to get working with Zephyr, especially if enabling the standard socket API feature which should allow the current tcp backend to work. Alternatively, add a zsock tcp backend.
