Automation according to message text

Hi
So far I manged to connect a node and receive messages (using DM, but sure public or channel will work). I can even reply with a fixed text.
My question: How can I reply to specific messages, eg if received "ping" then answer "pong". And how can I send values like temperature from existing sensors.
I am a bit new to HA, would be very thankful for clear examples.
