Seems that the ultimate ask.

Cuz yea as it stands it's plays the same as any good emulator. But add widescreen and it becomes it's own awesome thing.

As yea Super ZSNES can do fake widescreen for mmx now.. But REAL widescreen, that would be awesome.

PS: Why are you adding SRAM save stuff in launcher / notes? MMX doesn't have SRAM saves support ... just passwords.
I figure out it supports save states like snes9x style, but that's not sram.

Heya!

Noting the SRAM issue -- that's a bit of cruft from a failed experiment. You are correct that Megaman X doesn't have SRAM, but I was playing with the idea of doing what I did for NESRecomp Faxanadu and Metroid (see here: https://github.com/mstan/MetroidNESRecomp ).

More or less, it basically creates a synthesized sram that persists the password.

As for the widescreen: I did try to experiment with that as well. I was having some issues with some stale PPU buffer spilling into the 16:9 areas. It is possible in theory, but is drastically more difficult without proper disassembly annotation.

But widescreen should be possible. Due to extensive disassembly and notes, I did achieve it on both Super Mario World and A Link to the Past under snesrecomp.

Here's a quick preview of it working for SMW.

I may try again later on, but I'm hopeful the community can come through with a bit more documentation on MMX in the interim to aid in this.

Hello! An update on this. I was able to implement an experimental widescreen to the game. It should be available per the latest release.

It isn't exhaustively tested, and I do anticipate bugs. I was able to test about half of the game. There's a lot of hardcoded specific logic throughout that will need updating. If you're willing to playtest and report, can help me expedite closing these out.

Hello. Could you provide a bit more detail about what you're asking? As far as I know, the aspect ratio is 4:3 natively and I believe 16:9 preserves the pixels aspects, which are slightly wider due to it not being perfectly square.

Want to make sure I understand the request before attempting to implement it..

Heeellooo! What I mean is to implement the actual square aspect ratio (1:1 or 8:7) and not one that looks stretched (4:3). I hope this isn't too much trouble. Here's a comparison so you can get an idea.

The launcher now offers these Display aspect choices:

• 4:3 (CRT) — still the default
• 8:7 (Square pixels)
• 1:1 (Square frame)

True widescreen remains a separate option under Mods. It extends each selected presentation proportionally, producing 16:9 from 4:3, 32:21 from 8:7, or 4:3 from 1:1.
