Notification texts customizable?

[janreinhardt]

Im having Zerobyte sending notifications about backups to ntfy.sh.
(How) can I change the notification texts? Id like to read different stuff in these notifications.
Thank you.

Hello @janreinhardt what kind of info you are missing? I'd like to avoid too many customizations and keep the tool simple. Maybe we can make it more useful on our side

Hi @nicotsx ,
see the yellow box please. For my machine I’m sending notifications from multiple services to one ntfy notification channel. Therefore, the service needs to identify itself in the notification headline.
And personally, I dont like the green check. And the last line with time + date could be left out: that info is already in the timestamp of the notification.
So if notifications could be edited via a template, my ideal notification would look like this:

12/21/25, 1:34 AM
Zerobyte backup „insert-backup-name“ successful
Volume: home
Repository: fritznas-ftp

I agree. At a minimum I think the name of the Backup would be very helpful. Also the mirror(s), would be nice. Something like:

- Backup name: Job 1
- Source: Documents
- Destination: hard drive 2
- Mirror 1: backblaze
- Time: 12/30/2025 1:11

@janreinhardt would this be better?

yep thats more beautiful! 👍🏻
The backup schedule is mentioned twice (in the title of the notification and in the last line), so you could change the last line to „Mirrors:“

Hi!
I have a use-case where the first design was much better. I receive the ntfy notifications on my phone and I check them in the morning after waking up. I have about 12 backups jobs, and with the modification, I cannot just scroll through the notifications to check if there was a failure because the screen is not wide enough to display the status without extending the notification one by one. With the previous design, I could spot it anything went wrong much faster.

I resolved this by making the notification to a python web hook that formats the message the way I like, but I think a customisable notification message would be a great feature to cover multiple use-cases.

Anyway not a big deal, just wanted to contribute to the discussion, love the project!
