Youtube, in their horrible quest to whitewash history and erase all SD video from the planet, have introduced a new "feature" that will use AI slop to upscale videos in 720p or lower resolutions to 1080p. Although this can be manually changed, and it will tell you if a 720 or 1080 is "super resolution" (i.e. a.i. upscaled by Youtube, not native), it now sets 1080 Super Resolution to be the default.
I humbly request in a future update to add an option to automatically disable Super Resolutions, so they are hidden from video options, and default goes back to 480p or 720p or whatever the highest original resolution was.
( I honestly do not understand Youtube's thinking. First they significantly reduce bitrate of everything below 1080p to make it look terrible, but then they use a.i. to upscale everything to 1080, even 240p? It makes no sense. It needlessly bloats the file size of videos that will look bad regardless of resolution because Youtube made the bitrate terrible. Instead of ruining the video with a.i. slop, maybe just don't intentionally degrade the bitrate in the first place? Then it won't look bad AND the file size will be much smaller.)
