SteamVR & Envision Setup Guide for AerynOS (Valve Index and RDNA2)

1. Install the beta version of SteamVR (or version >=2.16.3)
2. Add RADV_DEBUG=nodisplaydcc %command% to the SteamVR launch arguments
   • Note: This fixes upstream bugs on RDNA2. Check the Linux VR Adventure Discord for the latest regressions
3. Power Cycle the Headset (If needed)
   • Unplug the Valve Index power cable, wait 15 seconds, and replug it
   • Why: This is often required if SteamVR crashes or DRM leasing fails (Wayland window spawns 2 views)
4. Run SteamVR and close the Room Setup window (it is currently broken; you will use the CLI later for room setup)
5. Set SteamVR as the default OpenXR runtime. If a popup appears for open with, select vrmonitor
6. Wait until the C201 error stays on screen, then close SteamVR
7. Headless Calibration
   • Follow the steps at https://wiki.vronlinux.org/docs/steamvr/#vrcmd for headless calibration
   • Pro Tip: Lay your headset and controllers on the floor during this step so your floor height is accurate (you can adjust this later in WayVR)
8. Install Envision, WayVR and jq: sudo moss it envision wayvr jq
9. Run STEAMHOME="$HOME/.steam/steam"; jq '.power.autoLaunchSteamVROnButtonPress = false' $STEAMHOME/config/steamvr.vrsettings > /tmp/steamvr.vrsettings && mv /tmp/steamvr.vrsettings $STEAMHOME/config/steamvr.vrsettings
   • Note: This stops the autostart of SteamVR when turning on the controllers
10. Set Environment Variables in Envision
    • Go to Preferences (hamburger menu) -> Advanced -> Environmental Variables
    • Paste RADV_DEBUG=nodisplaydcc %command% and save
11. In the same Preferences menu, go to the Plugins tab and enable the WayVR overlay
12. Activate Developer Mode & Start
    • Note: Developer mode allows you to see the output of Monado and WayVR, so you know if it works or not
    • Note 2: If you see red text for bindings in the WayVR debug logs, ignore them. It simply means WayVR is falling back to internal bindings
    • In the hamburger menu, activate Developer Mode (to see Monado output) and start Envision
13. KDE will prompt you to share desktops. Check the developer tab for specific instructions (usually it says now select Monitor X)
14. Game Configuration
    • Apply the environment variables to your specific game
    • CRITICAL: You must use ProtonGE. Force your VR game to use ProtonGE in the Steam Compatibility settings. Without it, the game may not start in VR mode and run with an uncapped framerate
15. Enjoy; hope everything works. If something doesn't work, don't be scared to ask the Discord for help
