Formatting

This is a discussing about formatting tools (e.g. black)

To kickstart this discussion, we've made a few decisions for the codebase thus far:

• line length of 88, black
• running isort to ensure imports sorting

Currently we don't enforce this on every repo.

Ruff has a formatter. Is it as featureful as black?
