Add compression type to any ###ToVTK

Hello,

I am interested in adding an argument for compression to any xml file similar to that of
vtkXMLWriter::CompressorType

I know this may not be the most specific but I am interested in compressing large VTK files to make them easier for transfer and reading into visualization software (choose your flavor here).

Does anyone actually maintain this package anymore? Or has it moved to bitbucket?

@adamnicholasprice, my sense is that this repo is the official place for changes to PyEVTK and development is no longer active on BitBucket. I believe it is just that @paulo-herrera has only limited time for the project.

Thanks for your posts. This is the official repo and I still maintained the package as time and needs allow. I have looked at the compresion option that VTK uses and I am not convinced that can save lot of space: compression ratio depends a lot upon the type and values of the data that you store. For example, lot of repeated values compressed quite well, however that depends on the type of simulation you are running. Moreover, using the Zlib library can impose some restrictions on the license we can use.

If you are really interested in saving space for transient data, I would use something like XDMF (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XMDF), which allows using a single file to specify the mesh topology, while using several files to store the other data associated to cells and nodes. I think it has a python interface.
