Make more use of metatools for numeric vars

thanks @bms63 for the comments - now all resolved. happy if you want to add an issue for numeric/sorting vars for a future improvement to this article. i don't really ever use metacore that way so no experience there.

Check across ADaM articles and the specs - may be an area for metatools team to consider adding their new features
