You may cast a spell from among the exiled cards without paying its mana cost if you exiled four or more cards this way. Then put the rest of the exiled cards into your hand.

Investigation findings
The clause claims support and its structure is largely faithful — a reveal step, a per-card-type optional exile, the remainder to the graveyard, a free cast gated on four or more cards exiled, and the leftover exiled cards to hand.

The reveal count is the problem. It is recorded as a bare X variable rather than as the value of X actually paid for the spell. Other cards that read X off the cast bind it explicitly to the paid value — Kinetic Ooze, for instance, resolves both its enters-with-counters count and its target's mana-value bound from the X paid. Portent of Calamity does not, so X never receives the paid value and the reveal collapses to a minimal count, matching the report.

Acceptance criteria

• Casting Portent of Calamity with X=n reveals n cards.
• One card of each card type present among them may be exiled.
• The free cast is offered only when four or more cards were exiled this way.

Related issues
#6498 previously reported that the revealed cards could not be selected. That is a different step of the same ability and is closed; if it recurs after this fix it should be reopened separately.

Backlog audit (2026-07-25): this was fixed after the report by merged PR #6545 (commit 59d8250). That change preserves Portent of Calamity’s dynamic X reveal instead of lowering it to RevealTop with a fixed count of one. The current X=5 end-to-end regression proves that all five cards enter the reveal and per-type exile flow.
