At home I have a primary NAS (Synology, 4TB, 1 drive) where all my data is stored. In a separate place in my house I have a second NAS (Synology, 8TH, 1 drive) that I use as a warm standby (daily sync) for my primary NAS. This sync should also have snapshots/revisions so that changes on the primary NAS are not immediately destructive on the secondary NAS. The secondary NAS is "slightly hidden" in my LAN, it's not advertising itself or offering SMB shares (as compared to the primary).
The idea behind this is, that in case of a hardware failure (NAS, HDD) or unintended (mass) data modification on the primary I can easily und quickly use the secondary NAS by enabling SMB shares, without loosing more than 1 day of data, which is not critical for me.
For important data (about 1/3) I also have an encrypted, incremental backup to a cloud storage (Hetzner Storage Box via SFTP).
This way I have 3 copies of my data in 2 separate location where 1 is extern. Also it is very easy and quick to recover from intentional or unintentional data loss in my primary location with a complete setup that is cost efficient.
Pluton is the perfect software match for all these requirements in one tool while providing an easy and beautiful user interface.
(I was using restic, cronjobs and self made scripts before).
