History not accepting vim commands #626

In ptipython, I pressed F3 to show history. The status bar shows that Vim mode is active: [F4] Vi (INSERT). However, vim keys don't work. The help says pressing F4 switches between Emacs and Vi mode. But F4 doesn't make a difference.
Is this a bug or am I missing a trick?!
