C1 capacitor missing (?)

I have few others newbie questions (I'm sorry but I am completely new to electronics) ...

Shouldn’t there be an additional 10k pull-up resistor between the ESP-12F RX pin and 3.3 V?

If a logic high (5V) comes from the TX pin of the Nice control unit, the BAT54A diode will block it. However, what ensures that the ESP-12F RX pin is pulled to a logic high (3.3V) if there is no pull-up resistor present?

This resistor is also present in Bidi-Wifi schema

Can I use also 1N5819 diode (the same as in Bidi-Wifi schema) on control unit VSB to protect control unit ?
