With the ever increasing demand of satellite imagery its availability to everyone has become a challenge for most of the data providers and the users considering the file size which is in gb's. With the introduction of cloud optimized geotiff and http's range requests you're no longer need to read the whole 20-40 gb image, instead you can read only the segment of the image he's interested in.
