What happens:
Connect using a password, don't save it. Switch partitions, or apply an OS update. Tablet reboots. reManager waits for the tablet to come back. Complains that Xochitl isn't running ("reMarkable screen may be unresponsive", and in other dialogs "failed to create SFTP client: EOF").
What (maybe) "should" happen:
Connect using a password, don't save it. Switch partitions or apply an OS update. Tablet reboots. Immediately after, while the tablet is rebooting, reManager UI drops back to the front page, where the credentials you manually typed in are still cached and ready to re-apply (assuming they haven't changed in the meantime).
