Quoted XML entities not displayed correctly in blockTable

If one tries to generate a pdf using a markup like in this RML example, the ampersand character will be displayed quoted, while the expected behavior would be to have it displayed as ampersand.

This seems to be the case with blockTables, but not in other contexts. For instance, with example tests/input/ex_letterboxes.rml the ampersand character is rendered as expected.
