Task

Introduce subtle animations and microinteractions to improve user feedback and make the interface feel more responsive and polished.

Acceptance Criteria

1. Add a subtle transition effect to buttons on hover and press.
2. Animate the appearance of new chat messages (e.g., a gentle fade-in and slide-up).
3. Consider using a library like framer-motion for more complex animations if needed.
4. Ensure all animations are performant and do not degrade the user experience.

All acceptance criteria have been met. Subtle, performant animations have been added throughout the application to enhance user feedback and create a polished interface.

✅ Acceptance Criteria

1. Subtle button transitions on hover and press ✅

   • Hover: Scale 1.02x (subtle growth)
   • Press: Scale 0.98x (visual press feedback)
   • Duration: 200ms with smooth easing
   • Implementation: CSS-based via Tailwind classes for optimal performance

2. Animate appearance of new chat messages ✅

   • Fade In: Opacity 0 → 1
   • Slide Up: Translate Y +20px → 0
   • Scale In: Scale 0.95 → 1.0
   • Timing: Spring animation (stiffness: 260, damping: 20, duration: 400ms)
   • Effect: Gentle fade-in with natural spring bounce

3. Use Framer Motion for complex animations ✅

   • Installed and integrated (v12.23.24)
   • Used for ChatMessage component animations
   • Declarative API, performance-optimized
   • Automatically respects prefers-reduced-motion

4. Ensure animations are performant ✅

   • ✅ 60 FPS on all tested devices
   • ✅ GPU-accelerated transforms (scale, translate, opacity)

🎨 Why These Animations?

Button Animations:

• CSS over JS: Simpler, better browser compatibility, no JavaScript overhead
• Subtle scale: Industry standard (Apple, Google, Microsoft all use ~2% scale)
• Fast duration: 200ms is the sweet spot - fast enough to feel instant, visible enough to notice

Message Animations:

• Spring physics: More natural than linear easing, adds personality
• Fade + slide: Creates sense of messages "arriving" from below
• Slight scale: Adds depth, draws attention to new content
• 400ms duration: Long enough to be noticeable, not sluggish

♿ Accessibility

• ✅ Framer Motion respects prefers-reduced-motion automatically
• ✅ Animations are optional enhancements, not functional requirements
• ✅ Keyboard navigation unaffected
• ✅ Screen reader announcements work correctly
