Sounds like a cool idea. We will be doing 1-2 more full lectures on UI and so those will be a big help in getting started. I'd also look into ActionRPG Sample Project by Epic Games. It's not the easiest project to digest (it's built on Gameplay Ability System & C++) but it does actually have an in-game "Store" to purchase items.
I wouldn't recommend trying to copy/paste their implementation to retrofit into your game (it won't help you truly understand the subject, but taking it as a reference might prove useful.
