👋 LanGuard v1.0.0 is here.

LanGuard is a tiny, free, open-source (MIT) macOS menu-bar app that turns Wi-Fi off when a wired Ethernet link goes up, and back on when you unplug.

Install

brew install --cask roypadina/tap/languard

macOS 14+ (Sonoma). It's ad-hoc signed (not notarized), so on first launch: right-click /Applications/LanGuard.app → Open, or run once xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/LanGuard.app".

What makes it less annoying than a naive toggle

• Edge-based — acts only on plug/unplug transitions, so if you turn Wi-Fi back on manually while docked it stays on until your next unplug/replug.
• Wake-aware — reconciles state after sleep.
• Per-interface — pick which wired adapters trigger and which Wi-Fi adapters it controls; virtual/VPN/VM adapters are off by default.
• No admin/sudo, no tracking, no network calls of its own.

Honest status

Brand new, very few stars, ad-hoc signed. Kick the tires before trusting it with your network, and please file issues.
