Suggestion: Unit Tests?

It would be good to have unit tests that ensure libchdr works correctly. This can be especially helpful on more niche architectures which receive less testing (i.e. riscv, ppc or etc.). Is this something that could be added?

Yes, definitely. I think I have some uncommited work doing that + a fuzzer.
