Login with SoundCloud without requiring write permissions

Is there a way to allow users to log in with SoundCloud without requesting write permissions on their account? Ideally, authentication should only request the minimum scope needed to identify the user, so they don’t get scared by unnecessary permission prompts

Hi @frranck - If it's ok to only see public information of that profile and not e.g. private tracks or playlists - I wouldn't log the user in at all but only ask them for a link to their profile. This would give you all the information you can also see when browsing their profile on soundcloud.com.
If you do want more information, e.g. their liked songs, you will have to authenticate and yes, that will give you full access to their profile but limited by what the APIs offer (for example you cannot change their email address or payment details through the public APIs).

@MariaVWSoundCloud Hello Maria, I have two instances of the same app running for a different context, and would like to be able to merge the data the user creates in both instances. If I simply asked the user who he is, that would create some obvious privacy leak. I do understand my use case is very specific though.

PS: Even on a single instance, I would need authentication to be able to share the user data (i.e the user is running the app both in a desktop browser and on a phone)
