PPA/Flatpak/DEB/AppImage ?

It would be nice to have any of those in order to easily install yad on Debian-based distros.

Thank you for your observation. Flatpak and AppImage aren't good fits for this kind of application, I think.
I don't maintain a PPA. A Debian build recipe would be nice. However, since I don't use a Debian-based main distribution, it's unlikely I will develop the recipe. PRs are welcome!

If you are interested in a DEB package, maybe you could ask on the puppylinux.com forum. I know some of the sub-projects there build DEB packages, and probably they have one for this yad fork as well. If you find it, please add a comment to this issue. Thank you.

Flatpak and AppImage aren't good fits for this kind of application, I think.

Flatpak might sound a little weird, but it does allow aliasing flatpak run yad (for example) to yad, I've done it for other CLI tools like yazi.

If someone is looking for independent, fresh Debian Packages, the Windows Maker Live distribution makes those available for free at their repository, including 64- and 32-bit builds for AMD64 and ARM64 built for GTK+-2.

I asked the repository owner your question. Here's the answer.

While the current release of wmlive is based on Debian/Trixe, there are still downloads and updated packages for the former version, as can be deduced from https://wmlive.rumbero.org/repo/dists/. Besides wmlive-trixie, wmlive-bookworm still occasionally receives some package updates.

The package's sub version beginning with a 0 (as in 0wmlive1) are typically for bookworm, while the ones with higher numbers (as in 1wmlive1) are for trixie. In this specific case the confusion arises because for both variants the upstream version umber is the same.

If people would properly configure the repository in their apt sources.list as outlined at https://wmlive.rumbero.org/repo/ then their apt package management system would be able to sort it out itself.

So I installed the 1wmlive1 one on my Pop OS 24.04, which seems to work fine.

I wouldn't add the whole repo though, as I suspect adding a whole other distro's repo wouldn't be safe, especially a Debian-based repo on a Ubuntu-based distro.
