RestoreLab Roadmap

This roadmap lists what is planned after v0.1.0. It is not a commitment. Items move only when there is real demand and the core v0.1.0 experience remains stable.

v0.1.0 (current)

PostgreSQL recovery drill from Restic inside a hardened Docker sandbox, with SQL validation, JSON and HTML reports, and guaranteed cleanup.

Scope:

  • Restic as the only backup provider
  • PostgreSQL custom-format dumps
  • Docker Engine API
  • CLI only
  • JSON and HTML reports

v0.2.0

  • Egress test in a separate tools image (active network isolation check, complementing the current Docker API inspection)
  • Optional Telegram notification (--notify=telegram:TOKEN:CHATID)
  • Documentation for cron-based scheduling and systemd timers
  • Better report detail for capability and resource checks

v0.3.0

  • MariaDB and MySQL support
  • Borg provider behind the existing BackupProvider interface
  • Plugin API for custom database engines
  • Optional GitHub Action

v0.4.0

  • Proxmox Backup Server provider
  • VM restore into an isolated network
  • PVE-specific contract schema extensions

v1.0.0

  • Optional web UI
  • Optional in-process scheduler (daemon mode)
  • Multiple notification channels (Discord, Slack, email)
  • Kubernetes support, only after real demand is demonstrated

Explicitly out of scope

  • Central SaaS: contradicts the self-hosted, zero-trust vision
  • WhatsApp notifications: requires Meta Business verification and does not fit a simple self-hosted tool
  • Automatic repair: dangerous and out of the verification remit
  • Any feature that weakens the sandbox isolation guarantees
