How to use on non-sharepoint project?

Specifically, I'm trying to use it on a .net 3.5, MVC 2 site. I've cloned the repo, but the CompiledViews.Mvc3Test project is still set to .net 4.0, not 3.5.

So what would I need to do for MVC 2 in terms of structure? Is this even possible (maybe I misunderstood what RazorEngine can do)?

I'm assuming that this method requires the views be in a separate project in the solution?

Put another way:

I can generate .cs files just fine from cshtml, but how do I reference those views from a .net 3.5 project? I see in CompiledViews.Mvc3Test that the view engine is set to CompiledRazorViewEngine. But CompiledRazorViewEngine is 4.0, and thus incompatible with a 3.5 Mvc site.

What you are looking for is somewhere in between the two implementations, and doesn't quite match either one. The MVC version is intended to add a couple of features to MVC3, so it assumes that all the standard MVC components exist, including .NET 4 stuff. The SharePoint version doesn't have any MVC dependencies at all, so doesn't implement the page/view interfaces needed by a view engine. However, it should be possible to combine the two approaches to get something that works under MVC2/.NET3.5.

Ah, I didn't realize that the MVC version was an extension of capabilities.

Unfortunately, this challenge is beyond my capabilities and time at this point. One thing that might help, though, is if you shared how you might go about combining the two approaches?
