Bulk settings and default settings

Maybe the Bulk settings feature could turn into a Default settings feature too. New feeds are currently using their own defaults, and it’s likely that the user’s choice in Bulk is also what they want as Default for new feeds.

It could be the same than today but with an extra button instead:

• Apply to all feeds
• Save as default for new feeds

There could even be one more option:

• Apply to all feeds in all tabs
• Apply to all feeds in the tab “Abc” (the current one)
• Save as default for new feeds

And same for tabs:

• Apply to all tabs
• Save as default for new tabs

Additionally, the modal would now remember settings used last time, since they would now be the defaults?

And in that case, the “Reset all settings” option might not be necessary any more?

That would be a good expansion of the bulk settings but also requires a lot of extra code and logic for something that's IMHO a once-off task. For now, this is a very low priority for me unless there's more demand from others.

Yes I understand.

Right now, I change options to new every feed I add (header color and height and numbers of items shown), that’s why I was thinking about having default settings. And I can’t use bulk because I already have some feeds with their own options (different heights or else).

Maybe at least having the Apply to all feeds in the tab “Abc” (i.e. apply to only the current tab) could be nice to have if that’s simpler to implement?

Same for me. I'd want every new feed I add to have the same configured defaults (extra small font, 50 limit) that are different from the installed defaults. Currently I just change extension.php locally to suit my defaults. It'd to nice to be able to do this from the UI.

Storing the global defaults will also fix a minor issue when using Apply to All Feeds in Bulk Settings: even if I want to apply just one option, I've to make sure to change the values for all the other options to my preferred choice, otherwise all feeds revert back to the default.

If I may suggest, this is how I envision the feature working. Instead of applying the configuration to all feeds when applying the bulk settings, the values should be saved in a hierarchical configuration pattern.

• On startup, defaults from extension.php are saved to *_CONFIG_KEY_global_default keys in $userConf, if they don't already exist.

• When user applies any bulk configuration, the new values are saved to the *_CONFIG_KEY_global_default keys instead of applying to each feed immediately.

• For each feed, only the overridden values (i.e., new values that are different from those in *_CONFIG_KEY_global_default at the time of saving) are stored in *_CONFIG_KEY.$feedId instead of all config values.

• When rendering a feed, the configs are retrieved as: *_CONFIG_KEY.$feedId -> if not exists *_CONFIG_KEY_global_default

• Then changing both the defaults and the per feed value becomes easier I think. Now, if I update the global values, the setting is applied all feeds except those with any per-feed override. Currently, applying the global settings resets any per-feed config.

• The "Reset All Feed Settings" button then just deletes all *_CONFIG_KEY.$feedId entries, such that the global config values will be picked up automatically.

I would also like to see a way to set a global default for colors.
