Describe the Bug

After reading for a while or going to the desired page, after pressing Home, reading progress is either 0 or 1%. After opening book, I am landing on choosing the chapter.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Go to book
2. open the book
3. Read the book
4. Press Home.
5. Progress not saved and when the book is at the beginning.

Expected Behavior

Reading progress to be saved.

Is your SD card the stock card or a brand name one? This sounds like a write error when trying to save your progress.bin or a corrupt progress.bin. Only deleting the book's cache doesn't delete the progress.bin so you'll have to delete that. If you don't mind deleting ALL of your reading caches, you can do it from Settings > System > Files & Cache > Clear Reading Cache.

If you only want to delete the caches for that one book, connect the SD card to your computer and look for the epub_<hash> folder that belongs to that book. If you've got a lot of those folders, you'll need to click inside and check the cover to figure out which one it is. Once you find it, delete the whole folder so it's re-generated.

I think this book is doomed. I have changed the card (to stock this time). Deleted whole cache. Also deleted hash folder. Even though it works on x4 with no issues, on Pro is not workig.

I'm able to open it fine on my x4 pro. I paged through a bunch of pages, exited, opened it again, and it went back to the correct page. Is it a particular chapter you're having issues with?

No, not really. I've chosen 5th as I am already reading in on x4. I read through 6-8 on Pro and had the same issue: when I exit and come back, I land on the chapter choice.

I think this may already be fixed on development. RC-4 still requires section to exist before flushing debounced progress on exit, but section is temporarily null during chapter/spine transitions. The X4 Pro Home key can hit that window, and this optimized EPUB contains several split spine items, making it easier to reproduce.

b23312fe removes the unnecessary section check. Could you try a build containing that commit? On RC-4, the serial log may also show:

[ERS] Failed to flush debounced reader progress on exit

The X4 Pro SDMMC/write flags look correct, so I don’t think this is an SD-card setting or corruption issue.

I believe I have found the "one in a million" case. This book was the first I tried to open just after flashing. Not 99% sure if it's after or before I've tried it, I've got an error... Now, I have created a file with a changed name and added it to the card: it works! Saves progress and whatnot. Not sure if it can be reproduced or if it's just one of those cases. Thank you, guys.

I was getting this on the second book I've read on the device. First one tracked progress perfectly, second one was returning to the table of contents after every open, even just going back to home then tapping the book again. I did the "Clear Reading Cache" sequence above and it now appears to be storing it fine. Same scenario as OP otherwise, epub uploaded to x4pro rc4 and optimized, stock SD card.
