Adding a generic HTTPS object storage connection

I have only started playing with objex ( in the hosted example on walkthru-earth).
OUr institution runs a self-hosted CEPH-based S3 compatible object store.

It does not seem possible to pick a generic https object store without specifying a vendor. How to go about this?
I tried to hack it via the Google Cloud storage, the connection was added, but no fils showing in the bucket.

The AWS did not work as it required a region to be picked.

Thank you for reporting that @tomkom, and sorry for the late response ... I have an issue with GitHub notifications, so I missed this earlier.

I will do some testing tomorrow with a local deployment of custom object storage using RustFS and MinIO to see how well Objex behaves with generic S3-compatible backends.

Right now, the provider flow is indeed too opinionated toward the major vendors, and generic HTTPS/S3-compatible stores are not properly exposed yet. Your CEPH setup is exactly the kind of use case I want to support better.

I’m also currently working on some refactoring to make it much easier for anyone to self-host their own version of Objex with simple pre-configuration options. That includes things like:

• default object storage providers
• custom/self-hosted buckets
• organization-specific presets
• different basemaps
• deployment customization
• and generally making the platform easier to adapt to institutional needs

I’ll get back to you once I finish testing with MinIO/RustFS and have a clearer idea about the best approach for generic S3-compatible endpoints.

@tomkom have you tried the minio option ? it supposed to be the custom one .. I will rename it in the next release
