This is a much slower response than I hoped, but testing/debugging this was difficult.

I set up another version of wpdir and did a range of searches on both. The actual results appear (with my limited testing) to be correct however, the calculating total matches are going awry somewhere. The testing setup displayed the correct number of matches, so something to do with the service running over time is breaking its ability to accurately count matches.

I also discovered two cases where the results differed slightly, which appears to be due to a failed/partial plugin updates. This one needs some further investigation.

I am currently working on a small scale wpdir setup (with a reduced dataset) to make testing this sort of problem much more accessible.

I will keep this updated as I learn more.
