We have an existing site that would like to migrate to ymir, is that possible?

Do you have documentation on how to do it?

Yup, there's a migration YouTube video. It's for bedrock, but it should fine for a regular WordPress site. I plan on having a written guide too in the future. But I have a few features in the pipeline I want to launch before writing it.

Watched the video and that gave me an idea of what is needed.

Some concerns here are we have around 1.5 million "images/assets" on the library, are they going to be downloaded to where I´m setting up the project and then uploaded to AWS?

Well, are these "images/assets" in the uploads directory or part of the theme/plugins? If they're in uploads, you need to import them using the import:uploads command like in the video. This will move them to the S3 bucket used by the project. Otherwise, they'll get packaged and sent to S3 during deployment.
