How to change display name in Windows Task Manager Startup Apps?

I tried tinkering with winresource but nothing did the trick.

Maybe this is a registry key not supported by this crate yet?

Similarly, I also wonder how to set the Publisher.

Any ideas?

This is a common question! The display name and publisher shown in Task Manager come from your executable's metadata, not from the registry entry we create.

Solution: Embed version info at compile time using winresource:

# Cargo.toml
[build-dependencies]
winresource = "0.1"

// build.rs
fn main() {
    if cfg!(target_os = "windows") {
        winresource::WindowsResource::new()
            .set("FileDescription", "My App Name")
            .set("CompanyName", "My Company") // This becomes "Publisher"
            .compile()?;
    }
}

Why: Windows reads this from the PE header at build time, not runtime.

Weird. I do have both these set:
