πŸ“¦ Installation

Quick Install

git clone https://github.com/AITwinMinds/GnomeOCR.git
cd GnomeOCR
sudo bash install.sh

The installer will:

  1. Install required dependencies (Tesseract OCR, gnome-screenshot)
  2. Let you choose which language packs to install
  3. Install the extension

Enable the Extension

After installation:

  1. Restart GNOME Shell

    • X11: Press Alt+F2, type r, press Enter
    • Wayland: Log out and log back in
  2. Enable the extension

    • Open the "Extensions" app
    • Toggle GnomeOCR ON

Keyboard Shortcut (Recommended)

Press Super+Shift+T β†’ Draw a rectangle β†’ Text is copied to clipboard!

Panel Menu

  1. Click the πŸ” icon in the top panel
  2. Select "πŸ“· Capture Text"
  3. Draw a rectangle around the text you want to capture
  4. The text is automatically copied to your clipboard!

Change Language

Click the panel icon β†’ 🌐 Language β†’ Select your language

The extension auto-detects all installed Tesseract languages.

🌍 Language Support

Install additional languages during setup or manually:

# Single language
sudo apt install tesseract-ocr-deu  # German

# Multiple languages
sudo apt install tesseract-ocr-fra tesseract-ocr-spa tesseract-ocr-ara

# All languages (~2GB)
sudo apt install tesseract-ocr-all
