• Generate change log file (CHANGELOG.rst) using towncrier
towncrier build --version 2026.3.0 --yes
• Move generated change log file CHANGELOG.rst from root director to docs/changelog
• Rename CHANGELOG.rst -> 2026.3.0.rst
• Add changelog to the toctree contained in docs/changelog/index.rst
• Remove dev from the toctree contained in docs/changelog/index.rst
• Release pacakge using the GitHub release mechanics
• Put back the dev entry in the toctree contained in docs/changelog/index.rst
• Merge using a Merge Commit (NOT a Squash Commit)
