Project Star Launcher

The Project Star Launcher is a C# recreation of the Astral Client Launcher that never officially released for Minecraft Bedrock Edition. This launcher is primarly for legacy, UWP versions of Minecraft Bedrock Edition, though some features may still work in modern GDK versions.

This project has been archived since its release in 2021, as more modern solutions are available to switch versions and use cosmetics in modern GDK versions of Minecraft, such as Citrine Launcher or J3 for changing Minecraft versions or Bedrock Cosmos for using custom capes and skins.

How to Compile Project Star

Project Star was created with C# on the Windows Forms UI framework (using the .NET 4.7.2 framework). If you're looking to edit, modify, or play around with the source code/UI, the following steps will help you compile the Launcher (and Updater if you please):

  1. Download the Visual Studio 2026 Community Edition setup file from Microsoft's website.
  2. Run the downloaded VisualStudioSetup.exe file. Choose to install Visual Studio Community 2026 and the .NET Desktop Development workload.
  3. After installing Visual Studio Community 2026, close Visual Studio if any windows are still open, and download the Project Star source code.
  4. Extract the Project Star source code, open the Launcher folder (or Updater if you want to access the program's Updater), and double click on the ProjectStar.sln file to open the project in Visual Studio.
  5. At the top of the opened Visual Studio window, select View, and then Solution Explorer to open the project's file view.
  6. In the Solution Explorer, right click on MainForm.cs, and select View Code or View Designer to view Project Star's code and/or UI elements, respectively.
  7. To compile the Launcher, firstly ensure that the x64 architecture is selected next to the green Start button in Visual Studio.
  8. Select Start in Visual Studio to compile the Launcher and turn it into an executable file. This file will be outputted to the same directory as the SLN file you ran in step 4 under /bin/x64/[Debug or Release]/ProjectStar.exe, which you can then run on its own to use your custom build of the Launcher.
