Back-merge of the v5.6.0 release commit (version bump + CHANGELOG.md) from
mainintodev. The automated back-merge job was skipped because the v5.6.0 release run's appliance-image build failed (that dependency is already removed from the workflow on dev). Without this, dev→main PR #1164 is BEHIND main and cannot merge.
