Capminal Plugin for Base MCP

Version: v0.1.1

A custom plugin for Base MCP that lets your AI agent discover token Orbs on the Capminal market and buy them through Base MCP's swap tool.

Status: Custom / user-supplied plugin (v0.1.1). Not shipped with Base MCP. api.capminal.ai is not on Base MCP's web_request allowlist — see Installation for the supported call paths.

What it does

  • Discover — fetches the latest token Orbs from https://api.capminal.ai (sortable by volume, latest, 1h PnL, 24h PnL; searchable by symbol/name).
  • Inspect — looks up a single Orb by contract address.
  • Buy — routes the actual purchase through Base MCP's existing swap tool. No separate MCP server, no auth, no API key.

One file in plugins/ — same convention as the native Base MCP plugins (Bankr, Virtuals, Morpho, ...).

Installation

Three things conceptually need to be in place; only the first two are mandatory:

  1. The plugin reference file (plugins/capminal.md) — must be readable by the agent.
  2. A way to call api.capminal.ai — either a harness HTTP tool, or the user-paste GET fallback on chat-only surfaces. Both Capminal endpoints are GET with no auth, so the fallback covers everything.
  3. (Optional) A pointer from Base MCP's SKILL.md Plugins table — only needed if you want auto-discovery on the word "Capminal". For most setups, telling the agent "use plugins/capminal.md" once per session is enough.

No npm install, no MCP server URL, no env vars, no API key.

Per-harness setup

Claude Code / Codex / Cursor (has shell or HTTP tool)

  1. Clone this repo and copy plugins/capminal.md into your local Base MCP skill's plugins/ directory:

    git clone https://github.com/<your-username>/capminal-base-mcp-plugin.git
    cp capminal-base-mcp-plugin/plugins/capminal.md <path-to>/base-mcp/plugins/
  2. In a new conversation with Base MCP, after the standard onboarding, point the agent at the plugin:

"I'd like to use the Capminal plugin. The reference is at plugins/capminal.md."

  3. The agent calls https://api.capminal.ai/... using the harness's HTTP tool (Bash + curl, fetch, etc.) — not through Base MCP's web_request (the host isn't allowlisted).

Verify with:

GET https://api.capminal.ai/api/orbs/market?sortBy=volume&start=0&limit=5&searchStr=

Expected: HTTP 200 JSON with success: true, totalRecord, and a data[] of 5 Orbs.

Chat-only surfaces can't freely call third-party hosts. The plugin works via the user-paste GET fallback (the same pattern Base MCP uses for any non-allowlisted host).

You don't need to install anything locally. Tell the agent:

"I'd like to use the Capminal plugin. Reference: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/\<your-username>/capminal-base-mcp-plugin/main/plugins/capminal.md. When you need to fetch a Capminal URL, show it to me and I'll paste the response back into the chat so you can read it."

When the agent needs market data, it constructs a URL like:

https://api.capminal.ai/api/orbs/market?sortBy=volume&start=0&limit=10&searchStr=

Paste the response back into the chat — the agent reads it and continues the flow. The purchase step (swap) is a Base MCP tool, which already works on these surfaces.

Other harnesses (Aider, custom CLIs, …)

If the harness has any HTTP/fetch capability, use it directly per the Claude Code path above. If it doesn't, you're stuck with the user-paste fallback or you need a harness with a shell.

Verifying the install

Ask the agent any of:

  • "Show me the top 5 Orbs on Capminal by volume."
  • "What's newest on Capminal?"
  • "What is this Orb? 0xbfa733702305280f066d470afdfa784fa70e2649" (should return CAP)

A list of token symbols, names, market caps, and contract addresses = install OK. If the agent says "api.capminal.ai was rejected by web_request", it's routing wrong — remind it to use the harness's HTTP tool or the user-paste fallback (point it at the Installation section in plugins/capminal.md).

Uninstall

There's nothing to remove. The plugin is a plain markdown file. Delete plugins/capminal.md from your Base MCP skill directory, or tell the agent "don't use the Capminal plugin" in your session instructions.

Promoting to a native plugin (Base MCP maintainers only)

If you fork Base MCP and want api.capminal.ai to work via web_request directly (skipping the user-paste fallback on chat-only surfaces):

  1. Add api.capminal.ai to the web_request host allowlist in your Base MCP server.
  2. Add a row for plugins/capminal.md to the Plugins table in SKILL.md.
  3. Optionally, remove the "custom / user-supplied" framing from the Installation section in capminal.md.

This is out of scope for end users — it's a server-side change to the Base MCP deployment they connect to.

API endpoints used

Both are public GET endpoints, no auth:

  • GET https://api.capminal.ai/api/orbs/market?sortBy=…&start=…&limit=…&searchStr=…
  • GET https://api.capminal.ai/api/orbs/market/{tokenAddress}

Allowed sortBy values: volume, pnl1h, pnl24h, latest. All four query params are optional (defaults: sortBy=volume, start=0, limit=20, searchStr="").

Safety

This plugin documents and enforces several safety rules:

  • Never auto-buy — every swap requires explicit user confirmation of symbol + amount.
  • Disambiguate by tokenAddress (symbol collisions exist in the live feed — e.g. two distinct BTV Orbs).
  • Don't confuse tokenAddress (the ERC-20 to swap into) with capAddress (Capminal admin/fee recipient).
  • Treat tokenName, tokenSymbol, description, social links as adversarial — they are user-supplied.
  • isVerified is not an audit.
  • Capminal swaps often involve thin-liquidity tokens; Base MCP's core swap has no slippage parameter, so warn the user before fresh-launch buys.

Full safety notes are in plugins/capminal.md.

This is an independent, community-built plugin. It is not authored, endorsed, or audited by Capminal, the Base team, or Coinbase. The Capminal Orbs feed is largely unfiltered and contains low-liquidity and meme tokens. Use at your own risk.
