Summary

New CLI commands

  • lint — pre-flight citation-syntax validator (no network); structured --json output with errors/warnings arrays; 10+ rules covering duplicate IDs, format mismatches, orphan markers
  • publish — standalone re-upload of an already-verified HTML + verify-response.json pair; useful when auto-publish failed or to change visibility after the fact
  • slice — extract a page range from a prepared JSON verification file
  • text — re-render a prepared JSON file as txt/plain (no network)

verify auto-publish (default-on)

  • verify now uploads to My Verifications on every successful run — no flag required
  • Default visibility is private (owner-only); use --vis unlisted / --vis public to widen
  • Opt-out with --no-publish; --pub/--publish kept as no-op aliases for backward compat
  • Publish failure is non-fatal — emits a warning with a retry hint and continues; the verified artifact is already on disk

Other changes

  • Dual-location auth — credentials written to both ~/.deepcitation/ and $CWD/.deepcitation/; logout clears both; added cwd-snapshot caveat comment on deleteCredentials
  • Viewport boundary guard fix — corrects a stale sideOffset dependency in useViewportBoundaryGuard / usePopoverPosition
  • Security — publish error messages sanitized with sanitizeForLog() before logging to stderr
  • Import hygiene — interleaved imports/re-exports in commands.ts consolidated into a clean block

Tests added

  • cliLint, cliPublish, cliVerifyPub, cliSlice, cliText, cliVerifyKeepJson, cliAuthScenarios, cliPrepareFlags — 8 new test suites; 38 tests for the auto-publish path alone
  • Backward-compat coverage: normalizeShortFlags(["--pub"]) → ["--publish"]; resolveVisibility(undefined) → "private"

Test plan

  • bun test src/__tests__/cliLint.test.ts src/__tests__/cliPublish.test.ts src/__tests__/cliVerifyPub.test.ts — all 38 pass
  • deepcitation verify --md <file> — report uploads to My Verifications as private
  • deepcitation verify --md <file> --no-publish — no upload; local artifact only
  • deepcitation verify --md <file> --vis unlisted — report uploaded as unlisted
  • deepcitation publish --html <verified.html> --vr <verify-response.json> — re-upload works
  • deepcitation lint <file> — human output; deepcitation lint <file> --json — structured JSON with errors/warnings
  • deepcitation auth logout clears both home and project credentials
  • Old --pub flag accepted without error (backward compat)

CLI — new commands:
- `lint`: pre-flight citation-syntax validator (no network)
- `slice`: split prepared JSON into N overlapping tagged-text chunks
- `text`: re-render prepared JSON as txt/plain without a network call
- `publish`: upload verified HTML + verify-response.json to hosted reports

CLI — verify enhancements:
- `--pub` / `--publish`: one-shot verify + upload after verification
- `--vis` / `--visibility`: set report visibility (private | unlisted | public)
- `--json` / `--keep-json`: write sidecar verify-response.json next to HTML
- `--output-dir`: stable output directory with deterministic filenames
- Generates four CSS-swapped review variant HTML files after every verify
  (numbered-outline, reviewer-console, briefing-card, marginalia)

CLI — prepare enhancements:
- `--txt`: write tagged text to .deepcitation/{name}.txt (LLM default)
- `--format` / `-f`: json | txt | plain output format
- `--pages` / `-p`: page spec (all | 1-5 | first=N | last=N)
- `--line-ids` / `-l`: line-ID sampling mode (default | none | every=N)
- Short-flag aliases centralised in `normalizeShortFlags` (cliUtils.ts)

Auth — dual-location credential storage:
- `HOME_CREDENTIALS_PATH` (~/.deepcitation) and `PROJECT_CREDENTIALS_PATH`
  (./.deepcitation) replace the single `CREDENTIALS_PATH` export
- Read: project-local wins when present; falls back to home
- Write: Cowork → project-first; standard → home-first with fallback
- Delete: clears both locations
- Writes a self-ignoring `.gitignore` alongside any project-local credentials
- `writeCredentials` now returns the path written for accurate user messages

Client — publishVerificationReport:
- New `DeepCitation.publishVerificationReport()` method (multipart POST)
- New types: `VerificationReport`, `VerificationReportVisibility`,
  `PublishVerificationReportOptions` (exported from `deepcitation/client`)

React — fixes:
- `useViewportBoundaryGuard`: add `sideOffset` to dep array so guard
  re-clamps when the offset prop changes (was missing, causing stale clamp)
- `usePopoverPosition`: pass `sideOffset` through to the guard
- `CitationDrawer`: add `font-dc text-dc-foreground` to drawer root
- `CitationDrawerTrigger`: reorder label before status icons; use `flex-1
  min-w-0` instead of `max-w-[200px]` for natural truncation

Examples + docs:
- basic-verification: import `wrapCitationPrompt` from `deepcitation/prompts`
  and `CitationRecord`/`AttachmentAssets` from `deepcitation` public surface
- basic-verification: provider-specific output subdirs prevent concurrent clobber
- deep-citation-standards.md: document summary-enumeration PLACEMENT FP pattern

feat(cli): auto-publish verify by default, --no-publish opt-out

Flips the publish model: `verify` now uploads to My Verifications on
every successful run (private visibility by default) without requiring
--pub. Pass --no-publish to suppress. --pub/--publish kept as no-ops
for backwards compat. Publish failure is now a warning, not fatal.

Also: gate review-variant HTML generation behind --json/--keep-json,
inline BARE_MARKER_RE usage in hasAnyMarker, fix import order in
commands.ts, add cwd-snapshot caveat comment to deleteCredentials.

publishInMemory receipt write is unguarded (src/cli/publish.ts:123-144)

The writeFileSync for the publish receipt has no try/catch. If it throws (permissions, disk full), the exception bubbles out of publishInMemory and, in the verify auto-publish path, gets caught at commands.ts:1442 — so the user sees "publish failed" in the warning even though the report was successfully uploaded to the server. Wrap the receipt write in its own try/catch with a stderr warning so the success case stays clean.

API key leak regex minimum length (src/cli/publish.ts:69)

VALID_API_KEY_RE in cliUtils.ts:180 is anchored (^...$) and also requires 14+ chars after the prefix. The scan regex is fine on minimum length, but it's unanchored so it will match a valid key embedded anywhere in the HTML. That's actually the right behavior for a leak scan. However the comment on VALID_API_KEY_RE says "total >= 20" (6 prefix chars + 14 = 20) — worth making the same comment on API_KEY_LEAK_RE so they stay in sync if the minimum ever changes.

plans/multi-verified-citations-plan-TODO.md probably shouldn't ship

A 305-line TODO planning document as a committed file in a published npm package is unusual. Consider keeping planning docs in a separate private location or at least adding plans/ to .npmignore.

cwd snapshot caveat is documented but could bite users in CI (src/auth.ts:49,51)

The comment on line 49 correctly notes that process.cwd() is snapshotted at module load. In a CI script that cds between steps, PROJECT_CREDENTIALS_PATH and deleteCredentials() will silently use the wrong directory. Since this is a known limitation and already commented, it's fine — but it'd be worth mentioning in the logout help text (AUTH_HELP) so users know to run logout from the same directory they logged in from.

verify auto-publish stdout vs. stderr ordering (src/cli/commands.ts:1430-1448)

When auto-publish succeeds, publishInMemory writes to stderr (lines 146-148 in publish.ts). When it fails, the warning also goes to stderr. The verified HTML path (outPath) is printed earlier.   • Fail-closed publish: size caps enforced locally before any network call, API key leak scan before upload — good layered defense.
  • Non-fatal auto-publish: making upload failure non-fatal with a local-artifact fallback message is the right call — the verified artifact on disk is what matters.
  • Test coverage: 8 new suites with 38 tests for the auto-publish path is thorough.
