This project was carried out in first year of DUT Computer Science at IUT de Montreuil, during the inter-semester period.
We worked in a team of 3 students.
The project goal was to reproduce the main mechanics of the mobile game Plague Inc to better understand simulation concepts, data management, and game logic in Java.
⚠️ The game is available exclusively in French.
The game is directly inspired by Plague Inc:
- The player controls a virus
- The goal is to infect the entire planet
- Each country has its own characteristics (population, climate, wealth, etc.)
- The virus spread depends on these parameters and the global evolution of the simulation
The world map and the file describing the properties of each country were provided by the teachers.
- Language: Java 8
- Paradigm: Object-Oriented Programming (OOP)
- Architecture: MVC (Model – View – Controller)
- GUI: Java Swing
- Environment: JDK 8+
src/: Java source coderessource/: Images and data filesmanifest.txt: configuration file used when building the JARlauncher.bat: launch script for Windows
If Java is not installed, you can follow instructions in one of my YouTube videos:
- Linux: Install Java on Linux
- Mac: Install Java on Mac
- Windows: Install Java on Windows
This option allows you to compile the entire project and launch the Swing GUI.
- Compile
From the project root, compile all Java files:
javac src/**/*.java- Execution
Then, run the main class corresponding to the graphical window:
java src.vue.FenetreA precompiled JAR version of the project is available in the GitHub releases.
Download the JAR file from the following link:
Ensure you have Java 8 or higher installed, then run the following command in a terminal from the folder containing the JAR:
java -jar Plagiat_Inc.jarOn Windows, there are two possible methods:
A script is provided to simplify running the project on Windows.
- Verify that Java is installed and accessible in your
PATH. - Download the
Launcher.batfile available in the project repository. - Place it in the same directory as the previously downloaded JAR.
- Double-click the file:
Launcher.batWhen the game starts, you will arrive at the Main Screen:
Next, the game will ask you to select the type of disease you wish to play.
You can choose between Bacteria, Virus, and Homps, ranked by difficulty level.
You will then need to select a country to infect and click Start to begin the game.
Once the game has started, you will find several key elements:
- DNA Bar (bottom left): Fills up in real-time and allows you to benefit from mutations.
- Research Bar (bottom right): Indicates the progress of the cure.
- News Feed (bottom center): Displays world news, such as earthquakes, tsunamis, or the start of research.
- Zone Button (below the news): Indicates the location in the world you clicked on (e.g., the ocean). Clicking it opens a window with the health information for that zone.
- Day Counter: Shows the number of elapsed days.
- Disease Button: Clicking this opens a window with the Disease Statistics, allowing you to upgrade your disease using DNA points.
If you click on the button corresponding to a zone, you will get the health statistics for that area:
Clicking the Disease button opens the disease statistics window, featuring several tabs to manage mutations:
On this page, you can manage the evolutions and mutations of your disease:
- [Boris ENG] GUI design and implementation of game threads.
- [Kostia CHARDONNET] Management of the connection between the interface and data provided by files.
- [Me] Responsible for gameplay and game mechanics.
I would like to thank my teachers for proposing this project and for their valuable advice.
