can we consider this a deprecated project or there is stilll development done? ELRS backpack would be a very useful feature. any pointers on how to include in teh code base? can we clone it from any other VRX?

@jp39 Hi JP! Thank you! I implemented your ELRS backpack ESP-NOW feature for RX5808. The binding process works perfectly, but my TX only sends bind packets (MSP 0x09) - never VTX command packets (MSP 0x59). Does your implementation actually work with official ELRS TX backpack firmware flashed via the ELRS Backpack Configurator, or did you need to modify/flash custom firmware to the TX backpack module? Can you confirm that VTX channel changes actually work when using VTX Admin, and if yes, which ELRS version did you test with? I'm trying to understand if this requires specific ELRS firmware or if there's a initialization/handshake sequence I'm missing.

Hi @LochnessFPV, thank you for giving it a try. I'm currently using backpack firmware 1.5.4 on my transmitter. I'm not sure if it makes a difference but I have the telemetry option set to "ESPNOW" in the backpack settings of the ELRS lua app. I can confirm to you that my VRX does receive MSP_SET_VTX_CONFIG messages when I switch channel using VTX Admin.

If you still can't make it work using the latest ELRS backpack firmware on your radio, I suggest you create an issue on my fork rather than continuing the conversation here since this project seem to have been abandoned by its original maintainers.

Did you go through the binding sequence in the setup menu? Does status shows as "Bound" like in the picture below?

Thanks so much for the response and for all the work you put into your fork! When I reached out, I was already working on my own fork with some UI enhancements and UX improvements I wanted to release, which is why I was asking about the project status. I've been adding features like improved diversity algorithms, a drone finder mode via RSSI, spectrum analyzer, favorite channels, and other UI refinements.
Your implementation was super helpful as a reference! I managed to track down the issue to the MSP payload byte extraction. Turns out the channel index needed to be read from byte[0] instead of byte[2] in the MSP_SET_VTX_CONFIG packets. Once I corrected that and filtered the telemetry packets properly, everything started working perfectly with ELRS v4.0 and backpack firmware 1.5.4. Your ESP-NOW approach definitely saved me a lot of time figuring out the wireless integration. Really appreciate you sharing your work!
