Frequently Asked Questions
Here are answers to some of the most common questions about Scryarc.
Q: What is Scryarc's main purpose? Why should I use it?
A: Scryarc's main purpose is to save you time. It automates the tedious and repetitive task of creating channels and configuring permissions for new TTRPGs on your server. Instead of spending several minutes manually setting up each new game, Scryarc does it for you in seconds with a single command, ensuring a consistent and secure setup every time.
Q: Is Scryarc free? Why is there a Premium version?
A: Yes, Scryarc has a powerful free tier that is a complete solution for the vast majority of servers. The Premium tier is designed for large communities with advanced needs. It covers the operational costs (hosting, data storage) associated with resource-intensive features like unlimited game storage, audit logging, and the PbP Activity Tracker, ensuring the project remains sustainable in the long term.
Q: Does Scryarc read or store the messages sent in our game channels?
A: No. Scryarc does not read or store the content of user messages in your game channels. Its purpose is purely structural—it creates the "rooms" but does not listen to the conversations within them. The only exception is the Premium PbP Activity Tracker, which only checks the timestamp of the last message to see if a channel is inactive, not the message content itself.
Q: I invited the bot, but I don't see its slash commands when I type /. Why?
A: This is the most common issue and it's almost always a permissions problem. It usually means the bot was invited without the
applications.commandsscope. To fix this, you must kick the bot from your server and re-invite it using the official link. For more details, see the Inviting the Bot guide.
Q: What's the difference between the 'Role-Restricted' and 'Moderator Approval' modes?
A: Role-Restricted mode allows certain users (with a role you pick) to create games instantly without staff intervention.
Moderator Approval mode means every game request, regardless of who makes it, is sent to a private channel where a moderator must manually approve or deny it. Approval mode is the most secure option for large, public servers.
Q: What happens if a Game Master leaves the server?
A: If a GM leaves, their game channels and roles remain, but they are no longer the owner. A server administrator can use the premium
/manage_gamescommand to re-assign the game to a new GM, granting them all the necessary permissions.
Q: Where is my server's configuration data stored?
A: All of Scryarc's data, including your server's configuration and game list, is stored in a secure SQLite database hosted on a private server. The bot's source code is also kept in a private repository to protect its monetized features.
Q: Why does the bot need the permissions it asks for?
A: Scryarc needs permissions like
Manage ChannelsandManage Rolesto perform its core function of creating game spaces. It needsSend MessagesandEmbed Linksto communicate with you. The official invite link requests the minimum permissions required for all features to work correctly. A full breakdown can be found in the Inviting the Bot guide.
