Mermaid rendering in generated pdf documents. #2583

Description

@snapp-kenya

First, this given how much is working and the depth of the knowledge presented in even the one page linked below, this feels a lot like nitpicking. Awesome work. Also, you probably already know most of this - I think we have discussed it on linkedin :) I originally placed this defect report in the cia project, but it redirected me to this project so I'm posting here too.

I'm in dark-mode on an up-to-date macbook pro, running the brave browser.

Go to:

https://euparliamentmonitor.com/news/2026-05-29-committee-reports-en.html#1-force-field-overview

The first mermaid chart has a light yellow background, with very slightly darker yellow bars and a just about visible red line floating in the middle. Oh, and the text is all white. Effectively unreadable.

The following mermaid chart has bigger problems:

https://euparliamentmonitor.com/news/2026-05-29-committee-reports-en.html#1-impact-assessment-framework

It shows me a big bomb graphic and the words "Syntax Error in Text" :)

I found similar yellow on yellow graphs throughout:

https://euparliamentmonitor.com/news/2026-05-29-committee-reports-en.html#4-analysis-of-competing-hypotheses-coalition-stability

I've got a script on my site that strips the theme from mermaid and inserts my canonical one, at render time. That would fix the colours, but not the invalid syntax - that one's trickier.
