Growing up in China's exam-oriented education system, I began studying university-level computer science independently while still in school. What teachers saw as a distraction, I knew was my path. This experience shaped my core belief: knowledge is earned through reasoning, creation, and persistenceβnot permission.
At age 11, I competed in the China National Sudoku Championship, earning Amateur 6 Dan certification and joining the national reserve team. This early achievement taught me pattern recognition, systematic problem-solving, and sustained cognitive focusβskills that translate directly to systems engineering.
Moving to Canada opened new doors to project-based learning and intellectual freedom. I completed rigorous university-level courses on my own (CS61A, CS61B, CS61C, MIT 6.S081, CS144) because I believe in mastery through action, not credentials. To me, software engineering is a moral craft: logic must be reproducible, transparent, and useful beyond the creator.
